One of my favorite features of the Ninja Creami ice cream maker is the ability to make small batches of homemade ice cream in loads of different flavors.

It’s perfect for people who love to change it up from time to time or experiment with fun varieties.

No matter what time of year it is, you may find yourself dreaming of a tropical oasis or a relaxing getaway to the beach.

And if you love all things pineapple and coconut, then you’re going to love making this tropical treat that features your favorite flavors!

The great thing about this easy Ninja Creami piña colada ice cream is that it requires just a handful of ingredients and is a refreshing dessert for a hot day.

Ninja Creami Piña Colada Ice Cream Made with Jello

Since I started experimenting with Ninja Creami recipes that use pudding mix, I knew I wanted to try a few with gelatin mix, too!

I’ve already made several other pineapple treats in my Ninja Creami, including Ninja Creami pineapple sorbet made with canned pineapple and Ninja Creami copycat Disney Dole Whip made with pineapple juice.

This piña colada ice cream is a simple recipe made with pineapple gelatin mix, plus it gets its coconut flavor from a dash of coconut extract. It’s such a tasty treat!

I found the Jell-o mix sufficiently added enough sweetness, so I didn’t need any added sugar. If you want it a little sweeter, you could always add some sugar or maple syrup.

I did something similar with this Ninja Creami lime sherbet made with Jell-O!

How to Make Pina Colada Ice Cream Recipe in the Ninja Creami

It’s super easy to make this dessert, giving you a taste of the tropics at home.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Whole milk
  • Pineapple gelatin mix, such as Jell-O (or store brand)
  • Heavy cream
  • Coconut extract
  • Optional: rum extract
a box of pineapple gelatin dessert and a bottle of coconut extract are next to a Ninja Creami pint with pina colada ice cream base in it.

How to Make it:

Prepare the base. In a small bowl or large liquid measuring cup, combine milk and pineapple gelatin, whisking well.

The gelatin may not dissolve completely, which is okay. You just don’t want any lumps.

Whisk in the heavy cream until combined. Add coconut extract (and a little bit of rum extract, if using), whisking to incorporate.

Pour mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, being careful not to exceed the max fill line, and close the lid.

Freeze. Place pint on a level surface in your freezer and freeze for at least 24 hours.

Spin. Remove pint from freezer and take off lid. Place the pint into the outer bowl and secure the outer bowl lid.

Place outer bowl apparatus into the Ninja Creami ice cream machine. Press the Ice Cream button and allow the cycle to complete.

Check consistency. Remove the pint and check the texture of the ice cream. If it appears crumbly, you can insert it back into the machine and press the Re-spin button.

If it’s still crumbly after that, add a tablespoon of milk and Re-spin again.

Your tropical dessert should be a nice and creamy pineapple ice cream with a hint of coconut flavor!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • If you need this recipe to be dairy-free, you can use coconut milk (or other nondairy milk) instead of whole milk and coconut cream instead of heavy cream.
  • Feel free to add shredded coconut as a mix-in if you’d like some texture in your sweet treat.
  • If you’re enjoying leftovers, you may need to let the pint sit out at room temperature for 10 minutes or so to soften slightly.
  • I have not tested this recipe with sugar-free gelatin mix. If you opt to use that, I’d recommend using the Lite Ice Cream button.
