I’ve loved making homemade ice cream for many years now.
I initially started out making churned ice cream in a traditional ice cream maker, then began making several no-churn ice cream recipes.
Now that I have a Ninja Creami machine, I love experimenting with different flavors, because it’s just SO easy!
One of my favorite types of ice cream is Ninja Creami recipes made with pudding mix. Simple ingredients transform into a rich and creamy ice cream with almost no effort on my part.
That’s why I’m betting you’ll enjoy this Ninja Creami butterscotch ice cream as much as we do!
Ninja Creami Butterscotch Ice Cream from Pudding Mix
Adding instant pudding mix to your ice cream base is multi-purpose.
First, the pudding provides flavor, which is why I love trying different pudding mixes!
The pudding mix also provides sweetness, so you don’t usually have to add extra sugar or other sweetener to the base.
And third, the pudding mix helps to serve as a binder, giving the ice cream that silky smooth texture that we all love.
Plus, the great thing about pudding mix is that it’s super inexpensive, so you can stock up on your favorite flavors to keep in the pantry until a craving strikes!

How to Make Butterscotch Ice Cream in the Ninja Creami
It’s a cinch to whip up a pint of this creamy butterscotch ice cream!
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Whole milk
- Instant butterscotch pudding mix
- Heavy cream
- Vanilla extract
How to Make it:
(Full printable recipe card is located below)
Dissolve the pudding mix. Combine milk and pudding mix in a large measuring cup or small mixing bowl, whisking until the pudding mix dissolves.
Finish the base. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, mixing to combine. Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container and close the lid.
Freeze. Transfer the pint container to a level surface in your freezer and freeze for at least 24 hours.
Spin. Remove the pint from the freezer and take off the lid. Place the pint container into the outer bowl and close the outer bowl lid.
Lock the outer bowl into place in the Ninja Creami ice cream maker.
Press the Ice Cream button and allow the cycle to complete.
Check the texture. Remove the pint from the machine and check the consistency of the ice cream.
If it appears a bit crumbly after the first spin, you can insert it back into the machine and use the Re-spin button to spin it again.
If it’s still crumbly after that, add a tablespoon of milk and Re-spin again.
It should now be a delicious butterscotch ice cream that’s the perfect soft-serve consistency.
Notes and Adaptations:
- Want a from-scratch version made with brown sugar? Try our Ninja Creami butterbeer ice cream for a taste of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
- Need to make it dairy-free? You can use a non-dairy milk instead of whole milk (such as unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, etc.), and coconut cream instead of heavy cream. I do this with my dairy-free Ninja Creami chocolate ice cream and it works well. You may need to use an immersion blender to mix it together well.
- Want to add a mix-in, such as chocolate chips or butterscotch chips? Create a well in the ice cream that’s about 1/2-inch wide and extends to the bottom of the pint. Add your mix-in to the well and use the Mix-in button to incorporate.
- You’ll only need about half of a small box of pudding mix. You can either double the recipe to make two pints and use all of the pudding mix, or you can save the rest for later use.
- If you’re enjoying leftovers, I recommend allowing the pint to sit out at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes to soften before scooping.
