The Ninja Creami machine has been such a fun kitchen appliance to experiment with!
You get total control of your ingredients and can make a wide array of desserts.
I also love how the one-touch programs make it easy to create different frozen treats, from smoothie bowls to sorbets to ice creams and more.
These functions enable you to transform a uniformly frozen block of goodness into a refreshing sweet treat with a delightfully creamy texture.
One of the features I hadn’t really used much was the milkshake function. So I knew I had to give it a try!
The result was a delicious treat the whole family enjoyed–my kids begged for more!
It’s become one of our favorite chocolate Ninja Creami recipes!
Making Milkshakes in the Ninja Creami
With most of the Ninja Creami functions, you freeze an ice cream base or sorbet base for 24 hours.
Then, the machine will use the perfect combination of speed to rotate its blades and sort of “shave” the solid bases into a frozen treat.
Ninja’s Creamify technology is pretty impressive, really, and it’s a lot of fun to create Ninja Creami sorbets from fresh or canned fruit, or even to make Ninja Creami ice creams using pudding mix!
One way the milkshake function is different is that you aren’t starting with a solid base.
Instead, the function works more like a blender, mixing together a few scoops of your favorite ice cream recipe with some milk.
It’s important to note that everyone has their own preferences when it comes to desired thickness of milk shakes.
Some people want them thick enough to eat with a spoon, while others prefer them thin enough to enjoy with a straw.
Either way, you can adjust the ratios a bit to get it just right.
The other way the Milkshake function is different from other programs is that you’ll add any mix-ins prior to running the cycle, rather than afterward. This allows them to be chopped more finely.
I do this with my Ninja Creami strawberry milkshake as well, using fresh strawberries!
During the holiday season, I even make Ninja Creami eggnog milkshakes and Ninja Creami pumpkin spice milkshakes.
And I use instant pudding mix to make a delicious Ninja Creami pistachio milkshake.
I use chocolate hazelnut spread to make a decadent Ninja Creami Nutella milkshake.
You can even make a Ninja Creami banana pudding milkshake and a Ninja Creami Oreo milkshake.
There are so many options!
How to Make this Ninja Creami Chocolate Milkshake Recipe
For this recipe, I’m using chocolate ice cream that I had already made in my Ninja Creami.
If you have a different flavor you’d like to use, feel free to change it up!
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Chocolate ice cream (or other flavor of choice)
- Milk of choice (you can use whole milk, coconut milk, skim milk, etc.)
- Optional: Chopped Oreo cookies
How to Make it:
Combine ingredients. Add homemade ice cream to the Ninja Creami pint container, then pour in milk.
Process. If you’re using chopped cookies, chocolate chips, or other mix-in, go ahead and add it now. This makes it like a chocolate cookies and cream milkshake!
Place the pint container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami, and secure the outer bowl lid.
Place outer bowl into the Ninja Creami machine and lock into place.
Press the Milkshake button and allow the motor base to spin, mixing the ingredients together.
Serve and enjoy. Pour the milkshake into a glass. Then serve and enjoy!
Notes and Adaptations:
- Using 1 1/2 cups of ice cream and 1/2 cup of milk results in a milkshake that is thin enough to sip through a straw. If you prefer a thicker milkshake, I recommend using 1 3/4 cups of ice cream and 1/4 cup of milk. Feel free to play around with the ratio to get it to the consistency you prefer.
- If you’re using a mix-in, such as chopped cookies, you’ll add it prior to spinning, not afterward. This allows it to be chopped more finely.
- I used chocolate ice cream, but you can use whatever variety you prefer.
- If you need vegan options, try using a dairy free ice cream (we like this dairy-free Ninja Creami chocolate ice cream) and non-dairy milk.
