Making Chocolate Frozen Yogurt in the Ninja Creami

For this frozen yogurt recipe, I opted to use plain Greek yogurt.

That’s what I use in my Ninja Creami strawberry frozen yogurt and my Ninja Creami peach frozen yogurt, and it works great.

I love the Cabot brand, which is 10% milkfat and has 14 grams of protein in every 3/4 cup. Using full-fat yogurt gives it the creaminess we want, so that’s what I recommend here.

If you only have fat-free Greek yogurt, you may need to add some heavy cream in order to increase the fat content.

Because I wanted a healthier alternative to rival my Ninja Creami chocolate ice cream, I added some cocoa powder and vanilla extract for a decadent flavor.

Granulated sugar gives it plenty of sweetness, but you could opt for monk fruit sweetener instead if you’re watching your sugar intake or need a lower-carb treat.

The result was a rich and creamy frozen treat that was easy to make and disappeared fast! 🙂

How to Make Ninja Creami Chocolate Frozen Yogurt

It’s quite easy to make this delicious treat with just a handful of simple ingredients.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Plain Full-Fat Greek Yogurt
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Sugar (or other sweetener of choice)
  • Vanilla Extract

How to Make it:

Mix the frozen yogurt base. In a small bowl or large liquid measuring cup, combine greek yogurt, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and sugar.

Use a spoon to stir everything together until well-combined. Transfer the yogurt mixture to a Ninja Creami pint container.

Freeze. Close the lid on the pint container and transfer it to a level surface in your freezer. Freeze for at least 24 hours.

Spin. Remove the pint from the freezer and take off the lid. Place the container into the outer bowl and secure the outer bowl lid.

Place bowl assembly into the Ninja Creami machine and press the Ice Cream button (if you are using lower-fat yogurt or monk fruit sweetener, use the Lite Ice Cream button instead).

Allow the motor base to spin the frozen base, which should take a couple of minutes.

Re-spin if needed. Remove the pint and check the consistency of the frozen yogurt. If it appears crumbly after the first spin, you can insert it back into the machine and press the Re-spin button.

If desired, you can add some chocolate chips, nuts, or chopped cookies and use the Mix-in function to incorporate them into the frozen yogurt!

Otherwise, just scoop your delicious chocolate treat and enjoy!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • I used full-fat Greek yogurt (10% milkfat), because it provides the best texture. If you’re using a lower-fat yogurt, you can try adding some heavy cream.
  • I used granulated sugar, but you could substitute monk fruit sweetener or even maple syrup if preferred. Adding sugar or other sweetener helps balance out the tang of the yogurt.
  • If you are using a lower-fat yogurt or monk fruit sweetener, use the Lite Ice Cream button instead of the Ice Cream button.
  • To enjoy leftovers, you may want to allow the pint to sit out at room temperature for about 5-10 minutes to soften slightly before scooping.
