Chocolate malts are one of those classic sweet treats that never gets old.
The malt powder gives a slightly nutty, toasty flavor, which enhances the chocolate and makes it even more decadent.
After making several varieties of Ninja Creami chocolate ice creams, I knew I wanted to make a version that incorporates malt powder and malted milk balls.
The result was a delicious, silky smooth Ninja Creami chocolate malt ice cream, and it didn’t last long around here!
Making Chocolate Malt Ice Cream with the Ninja Creami Machine
To make this simple recipe, I decided to go with a triple-whammy for chocolate flavor: chocolate milk, chocolate malt powder, and chocolate pudding mix.
You can use regular malt powder if you want, but I had chocolate malt powder on hand, so that’s what I used.
I also used sugar-free pudding mix, but regular will work just fine, too!
For chocolate milk, I went with FairLife chocolate milk, since it has extra protein in it.
Once the ice cream was finished, I topped it off with some chopped Whoppers malted milk balls for a little bit of crunch, and it was perfection!
Ninja Creami Chocolate Malt Ice Cream Recipe
It’s easy to make this simple yet comforting treat.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Chocolate milk
- Malt powder (I used chocolate malt powder)
- Chocolate instant pudding mix (I used sugar-free)
- Optional: Malted milk balls (such as Whoppers)
How to Make it:
(Full printable recipe card is available below)
Mix the base. To start, you’ll combine the chocolate milk with the malt powder and pudding mix.
Whisk well to combine, or use an immersion blender to blend until smooth.
Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, being careful not to exceed the max fill line, and close its lid.
Freeze. Transfer the pint container to a level surface in your freezer. Freeze for at least 24 hours.
Spin. Remove the pint from the freezer and take off its lid. Place the container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami, securing the outer bowl lid.
Transfer bowl apparatus to the Ninja Creami machine, locking it into place. Press the Lite Ice Cream button and allow the cycle to complete.
Check the consistency. Remove the pint from the machine and check the consistency of the ice cream. If it looks kind of powdery or crumbly, insert it back into the machine and press the Re-spin button.
If it’s still crumbly after that, add a tablespoon of chocolate milk and Re-spin again.
Optional Mix-in. I used malted milk balls as a garnish, but you can add them as a mix-in if preferred.
You’ll simply make a hole in the ice cream that’s about an inch wide and extends to the bottom of the pint.
Add some chopped Whoppers to the hole, then place the ice cream back into the machine. Press the Mix-in button to incorporate.
Serve and enjoy, garnishing with chopped Whoppers, if desired.
Notes and Adaptations:
- I used FairLife chocolate milk, but you can use a different variety if preferred. I don’t recommend fat-free milk for this recipe.
- I used sugar-free instant chocolate pudding, since the malt powder had sugar in it. Feel free to use regular pudding mix if you’d like!
- For the malt powder, I used Nestle Carnation chocolate malt powder, but you can use original malt powder if you’d like.

Ninja Creami Chocolate Malt Ice Cream
Making chocolate malt ice cream in the Ninja Creami is an easy way to enjoy the classic flavors of this old-fashioned treat.
Ingredients
- 2 cups chocolate milk (I used FairLife)
- 3 Tablespoons chocolate malt powder
- 1 Tablespoon sugar-free instant chocolate pudding mix
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped malted milk balls (such as Whoppers)
Instructions
- In a small mixing bowl or large liquid measuring cup, combine chocolate milk, malt powder, and pudding mix. Whisk well to dissolve (you can also use an immersion blender for this, if preferred).
- Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, being careful not to exceed the max fill line, and close its lid. Transfer pint to a level surface in the freezer and freeze for at least 24 hours.
- Remove pint from freezer and take off lid. Place container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami, securing the outer bowl lid. Transfer bowl apparatus to the Ninja Creami machine, locking it into place.
- Press the Lite Ice Cream button and allow the cycle to complete.
- Remove the pint from the machine and check the ice cream's texture. If it appears powdery or crumbly, insert it back into the machine and use the Re-spin function to cycle it again. If it's still crumbly after that, add a tablespoon of chocolate milk and Re-spin once more.
- If you'd like to mix-in some chopped malted milk balls, create a hole in the ice cream that's about an inch wide and extends to the bottom of the pint. Add chopped candy pieces to the hole, then insert the pint back into the machine and press the Mix-in button to incorporate. Alternatively, you can use the chopped candy pieces as a garnish when serving.
Notes
- I used FairLife chocolate milk, but you can use a different variety if preferred. I don't recommend fat-free milk for this recipe. Use low fat or whole milk if possible.
- I used sugar-free instant chocolate pudding, since the malt powder had sugar in it. Feel free to use regular pudding mix if you'd like, in which case you can use the Ice Cream button.
- For the malt powder, I used Nestle Carnation chocolate malt powder, but you can use original malt powder if you'd like.
