If you’re like me, you love a good sweet treat during the holiday season.

And while many of the delectable goodies we enjoy in our family are homemade, there’s one pre-packaged treat we always have to buy.

Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes! This is my favorite Little Debbie treat, and for good reason.

You know the ones–the white cakes with vanilla cream filling, that are shaped like little white Christmas trees.

They’re similar in taste to Zebra Cakes, but their shape, red icing, and green sprinkles make them extra festive!

So imagine my excitement when Walmart stores began selling Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake ice cream!

What a fantastic idea!

It turns out this concoction was a collaboration between Hudsonville Ice Cream and Little Debbie, and it quickly became a popular holiday treat.

But why not skip the grocery store variety and make your own?

After trying out a no churn Christmas Tree Cake ice cream as a copycat recipe, I knew I needed to create a Ninja Creami version.

Not only was it quite easy to prepare, but this Ninja Creami Christmas Tree Cake ice cream is a fun dessert option you can enjoy on its own or as an accompaniment to Christmas cookies!

Christmas Tree Cake Ice Cream in the Ninja Creami

For the ice cream base, I made a variation of my Ninja Creami cake batter ice cream.

Using pudding mix in the ice cream helps to create a nice, creamy texture, plus gives a hint of vanilla flavor without using vanilla extract.

Then I used cake batter extract to amp up the cake flavor just a bit. It’s not super strong, but a nice enhancement, in my opinion.

With the no churn recipe for this ice cream, you can simply fold the decadent golden cake chunks into the ice cream, and they mostly hold their shape.

The difference with the Ninja Creami is that you’ll be chopping up the Christmas cake into small pieces and using the Mix-in function to incorporate them into the base.

This means the pieces will be smaller, but still noticeable. And the flavor is there!

To give the ice cream the “look” of the Christmas tree cakes, I drizzled with some red icing and some green sprinkles. Totally optional, but oh so fun!

Dissolve pudding mix. In a small bowl or large liquid measuring cup, combine milk and instant vanilla pudding mix.

Whisk until the pudding mix is completely dissolved.

Finish the base. Add in the heavy cream and cake batter extract, whisking to combine well.

Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, being careful not to exceed the max fill line.

Freeze. Place the lid on the pint container and transfer to a level surface in your freezer. Freeze for at least 24 hours.

Spin. Remove the pint from the freezer and take off the lid. Place the pint into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami and secure the outer bowl lid.

Place bowl apparatus into the Ninja Creami machine and lock into place.

Press the Ice Cream button and allow the cycle to complete.

Check consistency. Remove the pint from the machine and check the ice cream’s texture.

If it appears crumbly, insert it back into the Ninja ice cream maker and use the Re-spin function to spin it again.

Mix-in the cakes. Create a well in the ice cream that’s about 1.5-inches wide and extends to the bottom of the container.

Add in the small pieces of Christmas tree cake, pressing down as needed to fit them in.

Close the outer bowl lid and return the pint to the machine.

Use the Mix-in function to process the pint, allowing it to mix the pieces of cake into the ice cream.

Remove the pint from the machine and scoop ice cream into a serving dish.

Optional: Garnish. If desired, drizzle some red icing over the top of the ice cream (I used a package of prepared icing designed for sugar cookies) and sprinkle with green sprinkles.

You can also top with more cubes of cake, if you’d like!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • I like adding cake batter extract to this recipe, but if you don’t have any, you can use vanilla extract instead.
  • Although you could make the base of this ice cream dairy free, the Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes themselves are not dairy-free. If you can find a dairy-free alternative to the cakes (maybe dairy-free pound cake chunks?), you could use non-dairy milk instead of regular milk and coconut cream instead of heavy cream.
