Last year, I purchased a Dasy “My Mug” ice cream maker, because I was quite intrigued by the claim that a tiny machine could churn ice cream.

Although I was skeptical at first, I’ve been totally won over by this little contraption!

It’s super easy to make small batches of ice cream or sorbet–making it ideal for one or two people.

I’ve made several flavors now, and I love how simple it is to create a creamy, decadent dessert in about 30 minutes.

Recently, a reader requested a Dash My Mug key lime pie ice cream recipe, and I was happy to give it a try.

The result was so delicious! It’s definitely one of my favorite recipes I’ve made in the Dash Mug–it’s the perfect blend of sweet and tart, and the graham cracker crust gives it just the right amount of crunch.

Using the Dash Ice Cream Maker

Most traditional electric ice cream machines use a freezer bowl, which has to be frozen for at least 24 hours prior to using.

Then an ice cream base is poured into the frozen bowl while a paddle, known as a “dasher,” churns the ice cream, pushing it against the sides of the cold bowl, which freezes the liquid.

This creates an ice cream with a soft-serve consistency, which you can enjoy right away.

You can also transfer the ice cream into a freezer-safe container and freeze it for a few hours if you want a more solid texture that’s suitable for scooping.

I’ve had a KitchenAid ice cream maker for years, and that’s exactly how it works.

The Dash My Mug ice cream maker uses the same technique, only in miniature form.

The “mug” is actually the freezer bowl of the apparatus, which you’ll have to freeze for 24 hours.

The lid that attaches to the bowl powers the dasher, churning the ice cream base as you pour it in.

You’ll end up with a small batch of delicious ice cream–perfect for one or two people!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • You can use regular limes or key limes, depending on what you can easily find. If you’re using key limes, you’ll want to use the zest of two limes (since they’re smaller). For regular limes, the zest of one lime is fine.
  • If you have the larger Dash My Pint machine, you should be able to simply double the recipe ingredients and churn for 20-30 minutes.
