Earlier this year, I purchased a Dash My Mug ice cream maker. It was on sale and I was really curious to see how it worked.

To be honest, I was a little skeptical that it would be worthwhile, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to experiment a little.

After trying a few different varieties, I have to say that I was actually pretty impressed!

This small but mighty appliance churns out enough ice cream for one or two people, in less than 30 minutes.

So after making the classic flavors of chocolate and vanilla, I knew I wanted to try some other options.

That’s how this Dash My Mug raspberry chocolate chip ice cream was born!

How to Use the Dash Ice Cream Maker

If you have experience using a traditional ice cream machine, you’ll recognize some similiarities with the Dash Mug.

With most machines, you have a bowl that needs to be frozen for at least 24 hours, to get it really nice and cold.

Then you make an ice cream base, which is a liquid that gets poured into the frozen bowl.

A mixer-type attachment, usually called a dasher, presses small amounts of liquid against the insides of the bowl, which causes the liquid to gradually freeze as it gets churned.

The result is a soft-serve consistency ice cream, which you can enjoy as-is, or freeze for a few hours to make it scoopable.

The My Mug ice cream maker by Dash works very similarly, except it’s smaller than most other machines.

The bowl of this machine is actually the mug itself, so you can eat the ice cream directly out of the bowl it’s churned in.

The lid that attaches to the mug contains the dasher, which mixes the ice cream to perfection.

Churn. Remove the My Mug bowl from the freezer and affix the lid and dasher to it. Power it on.

With the dasher spinning, slowly pour the ice cream base into the bowl, allowing the dasher to churn it.

Allow the mixture to churn for about 20 minutes, then add some chopped fresh raspberries and chocolate chips through the pour hole into the bowl, while the dasher is still spinning.

Let it spin for a minute or two, to allow the pieces to be mixed throughout the ice cream.

Then you can remove the lid from the mug, serve, and enjoy!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • The resulting ice cream will be the consistency of a soft-serve ice cream. Enjoy as-is, or pop the mug into the freezer for a couple of hours to solidify further to a more scoopable texture.
  • If you have the larger Dash My Pint machine, you should be able to simply double the recipe ingredients and churn for 20-30 minutes.
