Have you heard of the Dash ice cream maker known as “My Mug?”

It’s a mug-like bowl, which freezes for 24 hours to get it nice and cold.

Then you add a liquid ice cream base to the bowl, which the machine churns into a beautiful soft-serve ice cream.

I recently purchased one of these miniature wonders, and have been experimenting with different flavors.

Of course, one of the first flavors I wanted to try was a Dash My Mug vanilla ice cream!

The result was better than I expected–a rich and creamy treat, with plenty of vanilla flavor.

Making Ice Cream with the Dash Ice Cream Maker

The Dash My Mug machine is intended to make small batches of ice cream, which are perfect for one or two people.

The small mug is essentially a freezer bowl, which gets really cold over a period of 24 hours.

To make ice cream, you’ll create a liquid base, then attach the paddle and lid to the frozen bowl.

With the dasher paddle spinning, you’ll add the liquid to the bowl, allowing the machine to churn and freeze the ice cream.

It’s the same premise as most traditional ice cream makers, only in miniature size!

The machine does come with a few recipes, but their vanilla recipe included cooking a custard-like base with an egg.

I didn’t want to spend time doing that, so I came up with my own recipe!

Dissolve sugar. In a liquid measuring cup, combine milk and sugar, whisking well to dissolve the sugar.

Add remaining ingredients. Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract until incorporated.

You’ll end up with a little less than a cup of base.

Churn. Remove the mug bowl from the freezer. Attach the paddle to the mug lid, then affix the lid onto the bowl.

Press the power button to turn on the machine. With the dasher paddle spinning, gradually pour the vanilla mixture through the pour hole.

Allow the mixture to churn and freeze for about 20 minutes.

Turn off the machine, then remove the lid and paddle and serve!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • This vanilla ice cream will be like a soft-serve ice cream’s consistency. Enjoy as-is, or pop the mug into the freezer for a couple of hours to solidify further to a more scoopable texture.
  • If you’d like to add mix-ins, you can do that during the final bit of churning. Simply drop pieces through the pour hole and churn to incorporate. Chocolate chips, fruit, or cookie pieces would be delicious!
  • If you have the larger Dash My Pint machine, you should be able to simply double the recipe ingredients and churn for 20-30 minutes.
