The simple nutty flavor of pistachio makes it one of my favorite varieties of desserts–it’s almost right up there with chocolate!

So as I’ve been making all sorts of Ninja Slushi recipes, I knew I needed to try incorporating this flavor.

I’ve found that pistachio pudding mix is one of the best ways to add flavor and sweetness to frozen treats, so that’s what I used in this Ninja Slushi pistachio milkshake.

The result was a rich, creamy, and flavorful shake that my kids gobbled up SO fast.

Add some whipped cream and chopped pistachios as a garnish, and you’re all set with a satisfying sweet treat!

Making a Pistachio Milkshake in the Ninja Slushi Machine

One of the most important factors when making a milkshake in the Slushi machine is considering how much sugar is in the shake.

The Ninja Slushi manual states that you need at least 8 grams of total sugar per 8-ounces of liquid.

For that reason, I recommend using regular instant pistachio pudding mix, rather than the sugar-free version, plus a bit of additional sugar.

(If you’re trying to cut back on sugar intake and need a sugar-free treat, try my Ninja Creami sugar-free pistachio ice cream instead!).

In addition to the pudding mix, I like to add a little bit of almond extract, because it enhances the classic pistachio flavor.

How to Make a Ninja Slushi Pistachio Milkshake

It’s really easy to whip up this simple treat.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Milk
  • Instant pistachio pudding mix
  • Sugar
  • Almond extract

How to Make It:

(Full printable recipe card is available below)

Whisk ingredients. First, you’ll whisk together the ingredients in a large liquid measuring cup (I like to use one with a spout).

Make sure the pudding mix and sugar have dissolved, then pour the mixture through the opening in the top of the Ninja Slushi machine.

Freeze and serve. Next, you’ll power on the machine and press the Milkshake button.

Allow the mixture to churn and freeze.

In my experience, milkshakes take longer to achieve the desired consistency than slushies do.

The resulting milkshake is also not quite as thick as a milkshake made with ice cream, so just keep that in mind.

But it’s still a tasty, creamy treat!

Once the mixture is at milkshake consistency, pull the lever to dispense the shake into glasses.

Then serve and enjoy!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • I prefer to mix the ingredients in a liquid measuring cup with a spout, as that makes it easier to pour it into the machine.
  • The length of time it takes for the mixture to freeze will depend on the temperature of the liquid. I prefer to use refrigerated liquids, as they freeze faster. However, in my experience, I’ve found that milkshakes take longer to freeze than slushies do, even with cold ingredients, so keep that in mind.
  • When the machine beeps, if the mixture isn’t as thick as you’d like, you can press the up button to increase the freezing level of the mixture by a notch or two. It will then continue churning and freezing for a bit longer, making the mixture thicker. However, I’ve found that Ninja Slushi milkshakes are never quite as thick as a milkshake made with ice cream.

Additional Time 45 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes

  • 2 1/2 cups milk (I used 2%)
  • 3 Tablespoons regular instant pistachio pudding mix
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • Optional, for garnish: whipped cream and chopped pistachios

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large liquid measuring cup with a spout. Whisk together until pudding mix and sugar have dissolved.
  2. Pour the mixture into the opening at the top of the Ninja Slushi machine, then close the opening. Power on the machine and press the Milkshake button.
  3. Allow the mixture to churn and freeze,
  4. Once the machine beeps to signal the milkshake is ready, pull the lever to dispense milkshake into a glass. If desired, top with whipped cream and chopped pistachio nuts.

Notes

  • I do not recommend using sugar-free pudding mix for this recipe.
  • The amount of time it takes to freeze will depend on the temperature of your ingredients to start (colder ingredients freeze faster), as well as the consistency you prefer.
  • Once the machine beeps to signal the mixture is ready, check the consistency. If it's
not as thick as you'd like, you can press the up arrow to increase the freeze level by one or two notches, if desired.
  • I like to mix everything in a liquid measuring cup that has a spout, since it makes it easy to pour into the machine.
