If you were a child of the 1980s or 1990s, chances are you remember an Orange Julius location from a nearby shopping mall.
These popular stores served beverages (and hot dogs, as I remember!), the most iconic of which was their creamy orange drink, which was called an Orange Julius.
Many years ago, the chain was bought by Dairy Queen, and as far as I know, there are no more stand-alone Orange Julius locations in existence anymore, though there are some dual DQ + Orange Julius locations in some shopping malls.
But even if you can’t find a location near you, you can make Ninja Creami Orange Julius ice cream at home!
This concoction pairs the bright citrus flavor of oranges with a creamy hint of vanilla, making it a deliciously refreshing treat.

Making Orange Julius Ice Cream in the Ninja Creami
To make this ice cream, you’ll want to start with orange juice.
You can use store-bought or freshly squeezed, depending on what you have available.
I’ve also tried making this with frozen orange juice concentrate, but it was too tangy for my taste.
Sugar helps to balance the tartness of the juice, and pudding mix, vanilla extract, milk, and cream help provide that vanilla creaminess.
It’s similar to an orange creamsicle, but in ice cream form!

How to Make Ninja Creami Orange Julius
It’s easier than you think to make this tasty treat.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Orange juice
- Milk
- Sugar
- Vanilla pudding mix
- Vanilla extract
- Heavy cream

How to Make it:
Start mixing the base. In a small mixing bowl or large liquid measuring cup, combine the orange juice, milk, sugar, and pudding mix.
Whisk well to combine, ensuring the sugar and pudding mix have dissolved. You can also use an immersion blender for this step, if you’d like.
Stir in the vanilla extract and heavy cream until incorporated. Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, then freeze for at least 24 hours.

Spin. Remove the pint from the freezer, take off the lid, and place the pint into the outer bowl.
Secure the outer bowl lid, then lock the outer bowl into place in the Ninja Creami machine.
Press the Ice Cream button, and allow the cycle to complete.
Re-spin if needed. Remove the pint from the machine and check its consistency.
If the ice cream looks dry, crumbly, or not super-smooth, you can insert it back into the machine and press the Re-spin button.
It should be nice and creamy after that. Serve and enjoy!

Notes and Adaptations:
- You can use store-bought or freshly squeezed orange juice, depending on what you have on hand. I’ve also tried frozen orange juice concentrate, but it was too sour for my liking.
- If you’re using freshly squeezed orange juice, you can also add some orange zest to the ice cream base, if you’d like.
