A couple of years ago, I purchased a Dash My Mug ice cream maker and started using it to make all kinds of treats.
It works very similarly to a traditional ice cream maker, in that it uses a frozen bowl and a dasher paddle to “churn” and freeze the ice cream or sorbet. The only difference is, it’s smaller!
It’s like a cute, miniature version of an ice cream machine, so it makes small-batch desserts that are perfect for one or two people.
And although I’ve made several different varieties of Dash My Mug recipes over the years, I hadn’t made frozen yogurt yet.
Since I’m always looking for ways to get a little more protein into my kids, I wanted to try making Dash My Mug strawberry frozen yogurt. The result was delicious!
I used my Ninja Creami strawberry frozen yogurt recipe as inspiration, and it was super easy to churn it in the Dash Mug.
The result was a fruity, soft-serve style fro-yo that was promptly devoured!

Making Frozen Yogurt in the Dash Mug
Because I wanted this frozen yogurt to be nice and creamy, I used full-fat plain Greek yogurt.
Of course, you can use a lower fat variety if you prefer, but it will just affect the texture a bit. You can also use a flavored yogurt, such as vanilla or strawberry.
The yogurt I used was unsweetened. If you’re using sweetened yogurt, you may want to dial back the sugar a little bit, depending on your preference.
Macerating the strawberries with sugar (or monkfruit sweetener) is a great way to get them to release their juices, which creates a sweet syrup that enhances the flavor.
Then those are blended with the yogurt and some milk, and you’ve got the base for your frozen yogurt!

How to Make It:
(Full printable recipe card is available below)
Make the base. First, you’ll combine the sliced berries with sugar in a small bowl. Stir to combine, then let them sit for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
This will allow the juices to release, creating a syrup.
Then you’ll combine the berries and syrup with yogurt and milk. Use an immersion blender to blend everything together until smooth.

Churn and freeze. Next, you’ll remove the Dash Mug from the freezer (it needs to have been freezing for at least 24 hours).
Attach the dasher paddle to the lid, then secure the lid into place on the mug.
Press the power button to turn on the dasher. As it’s spinning, slowly pour the strawberry yogurt mixture through the pour hole, into the frozen bowl.
Allow the mixture to churn for about 20 minutes. Remove lid and dasher paddle from the mug and serve!

Notes and Adaptations:
- The resulting frozen yogurt will be the consistency of a soft-serve ice cream. Enjoy as-is, or pop the mug into the freezer for 30-60 minutes to firm it up into a more scoopable texture.
- If you’d like to add mix-ins, you can do that during the last bit of churning. Simply drop pieces through the pour hole and churn to incorporate. Chocolate chips would be delicious!
- If you have the larger Dash My Pint machine, you should be able to simply double the recipe ingredients and churn for 20-30 minutes.
